Discrete variable optimization of structures subjected to dynamic loads using equivalent static loads and metaheuristic algorithms

This paper presents a new computational procedure for optimization of structures subjected to dynamic loads. The problem is formulated with discrete design variables that represent the members from table commercially available members. Also, requirements in American Institute Steel Construction (AISC) manual are as constraints. results nondifferentiable problem. In procedure, load transformed into equivalent static loads (ESLs). Then response having solved using metaheuristic algorithm. Three methods calculate ESLs investigated. It found ESL cycles cannot converge final design. Therefore after few cycles, original need be used process. Four example problems analyze procedure. Based on this analysis, it concluded more efficient compared does not use because reduces total CPU effort obtain better designs found. reason many analyzed very efficiently
